Fortunately, many advancements have been made in the field of hair restoration, and St. Louis Hair Restoration is leading the charge with innovative treatments that are designed to rejuvenate one’s hair growth.
What is Non-Surgical Hair Rejuvenation?
Non-Surgical Hair Rejuvenation, also known as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, is an injectable treatment derived from the patient’s own blood. It involves drawing a patient’s blood, separating the platelets from the blood itself, and injecting the platelets into the scalp.
These platelets hold rejuvenating qualities that promote healing and enhance the body’s growth response. When injected into the scalp, it helps to trigger the growth of hair.
Blood is a combination of plasma and three types of cells, with each cell type having its own specific function. Red cells carry oxygen; white cells fight infections; and platelets are cells that are responsible for wound healing.
When the blood is spun in a centrifuge, we are able to separate these platelets from the red and white blood cells which leaves us with a concentrated platelet-rich-plasma serum containing up to 10 times the normal concentration of platelets.
How Does PRP Therapy for Hair Rejuvenation Work?
When injected into the scalp, PRP is capable of stimulating the follicles and reversing hair loss that arises from androgenetic alopecia. The concentrated platelet serum contains proteins and release growth factors which encourage new blood vessel formation and stimulate stem cell activity which, in turn, protects the root cells of the follicle and lengthens the follicle’s growth phase. This leads to an increase in both the length and diameter of the hair and an increase in density.
