Common questions

  • Why am I losing my hair?
The most common cause of hair loss is a hormone called dihydro testosterone (DHT). DHT causes the follicles on the top part of the scalp to miniaturize and thin while the follicles on the back and sides are stronger and unaffected.
  • Does a hair transplant grow?
Once the healthy follicles are transplanted it takes about three months before the hair begins to grow and a full year before it is fully mature. At that point it will grow at the same rate and keep the same characteristics that it had in the donor area.
  • Is a hair transplant procedure painful?
A hair transplant is performed under a local anesthetic. Most patients say there is no pain at all and are able to work a day or two after their procedure.
  • Am I awake during the hair transplant procedure?
Patients either watch movies on TV, listen to music, spend time on their tablet, or may even take a nap.
  • What is a hair transplant?
The relocation of healthy follicles from the donor area on the back part of the head to the balding and thinning areas affected by hair loss.
  • Is a hair transplant permanent?
The hair in the donor area is permanent. It doesn’t require any special care. Once transplanted it will continue to grow forever.
  • How long does a hair transplant procedure take?
The time spent depends on the number of follicles being transplanted. It is typically a one-day procedure but larger procedures may require the patient to come in the next day as well.
  • How much does a hair transplant cost?
Most procedures fall within $6500 to $15000 with monthly payments starting at $150 per month. Depending on the amount of hair loss, some patients may desire more than one session.
